The characters outfits came from a variety of sources including luxury brands such as Prada, Gucci, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. Christine Baranski, who appears as Bunny Caldwell – Cecile’s WASP-y mother – was adorned in Chanel-style suits from St John. A quarter of a century after it's initial release, the clever styling of Cruel Intentions is finding favor with a whole new demographic. “I was definitely inspired by Audrey Hepburn for the scene in the park,” Wingate says. Sarah (Michelle Gellar) and I both loved the idea.”A quarter of a century on, the influence “Intentions,” had — and continues to have — is undeniable, spawning a musical and a forthcoming series from Amazon.

CNN —Parents, teachers, coaches and other adults shouting at, denigrating or verbally threatening children can be as damaging to their development as sexual or physical abuse, a new study finds. The study, published in the journal Child Abuse & Neglect, reviewed 166 earlier studies to produce a detailed analysis of the existing literature on the topic. The authors called for childhood verbal abuse to be ascribed its own category of maltreatment to facilitate prevention. Child maltreatment is currently classified into four categories — physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, of which verbal abuse is a part, and neglect — and this study can inform strategies for prevention and treatment. Researchers also called for a “need for consistency” in defining childhood verbal abuse so that its “prevalence and impact can be appropriately measured, and interventions developed.

LONDON (AP) — Gatwick Airport, London's second-busiest, is limiting flights this week, partly because of an outbreak of COVID-19 within air traffic control. In a statement late Monday, the airport said a daily 800-flight limit, affecting both departures and arrivals, has been imposed until Sunday. Gatwick said around 30% of staff in the division within air traffic control are off sick for a variety of reasons, including COVID-19. It said the daily cap will prevent last-minute cancellations and delays for passengers while National Air Traffic Services, or NATS, gets back to normal. NATS apologized to passengers but said that a variety of medical reasons meant it can't manage the normal flows in and out of the airport.

(AP) — The Mississippi Supreme Court on Thursday struck down part of a state law that would have authorized some circuit court judges to be appointed rather than elected in the capital city of Jackson and the surrounding county, which are both majority-Black. Tate Reeves were usurping local autonomy in Jackson and Hinds County, which are governed by Democrats. Circuit judges hear criminal cases for felonies such as murder and aggravated assault. In May, Hinds County Chancery Judge Dewayne Thomas dismissed the Jackson residents’ lawsuit days after he removed Randolph as a defendant. U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate temporarily put the law on hold, which has blocked Randolph from appointing the four temporary circuit court judges.

The hateful email was a surprise, but for Eric Bach, it was not entirely unexpected. The young broadcaster had been anticipating something like it for some time. Three years earlier, while he was studying journalism at Michigan State University, he had publicly come out as gay in an essay he wrote for Outsports. He simply showed up to work, pulled his headset over his ears and described the action for the audience at home. More than a year after that incident, that email represents something of a nexus in Bach’s developing career as a sports broadcaster.

NATO's biggest ever air exercise is happening in Germany. Around 10,000 personnel and 250 aircraft, including about 100 from the US, are in Germany for the alliance's two-week Air Defender exercise. "Air Defender sends a clear message that NATO is ready to defend every inch of Allied territory," said NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu in a statement Monday. "Air Defender is necessary because we live in a more dangerous world" and the NATO alliance is facing "the biggest security crisis in a generation." As for the NATO air exercise, the drill will focus on protecting NATO cities and critical infrastructure, which Russia has attacked repeatedly throughout the war in Ukraine, from aircraft, drones, and missile attacks.

"This is the highest preterm birth rate that we've ever recorded," said Dr. Zsakeba Henderson, deputy chief medical and health officer for the March of Dimes. Alabama, with a preterm birth rate of 13.1%, is one of the worst ranked states in the country. Wingate has been charged with improving the state's preterm birth rate by improving maternal and fetal health. All had preterm birth rates of at least 11.5%.
